Behind the Artists – Bohemian Diesel Marketplace

Great news beauties: another amazingly talented artist has joined the team!!!
I discovered Freedom Rise about two weeks ago and fell in love with Becca Stevens’ art and designs right away! Becca creates art + apparel inspired by nature, adventure & our connection with universe.
And her beautiful designs are now also available on the marketplace, yay!

“Perhaps you can’t go on a hike or get out into nature everyday, but it’s my intention to bring you this feeling of connecting to nature in a form that you can wear or view everyday – a reminder or maybe an extension of your inner journey.”

Check out the interview I did with the gorgeous Becca, artist behind Freedom Rise here:

So who are you and what do you do?
I’m an artist, designer + photographer that as recently started making eco-friendly, nature-inspired clothing!

Tell us about Freedom Rise.
I always wanted to turn my art into something that was more than just drawings on paper and around the same time I became obsessed with this idea of connection. I read over and over that connecting to the world around you and finding joy in the little things were keys to lasting happiness. I realized that in my own life it was out in nature that I felt the most connected.
I started to focus on this concept in my art but it was when I learned to screen print that I got the idea to create clothes. Now I design and have our clothes created locally to me in Ventura, CA using eco-friendly fabrics. There is a lot of care that goes into every step!

How did you get into art? do you have a background in your family?
When I was little I would draw cartoons but it’s true that most of my family is artistic – most of them musically inclined. My mom is a guitar teacher and performer while my dad plays more instruments than I can count!

I had dreams of “becoming an artist” when I was young but then ended up giving up on it completely when I was 18 after a bad internship. It wasn’t until just a few years ago that I even picked up a pencil again and only more recently that I’ve really developed the habit of creating every day. There is something inside me (and maybe all of us) that needs to create in some way, shape or form.

When and where do you feel most inspired?
I definitely feel most inspired when traveling, especially camping. I love to wake up early, make myself some tea and sketch the view from the campsite. But even going to the beach or hiking can do the same. Something about clearing your head leaves room for inspiration to flow more freely.

What do you like about your work?
I love making + creating. It’s so much fun to have an idea and bring it to life. But even more than that I love how it’s brought me together with other like-minded people. Sometimes being an artist can be lonely but it’s been amazing to make so many friends that are doing something similar or just love to create as well!

Is there anything you don´t like about it?
Accounting – I’m not a numbers person!

Do you have a dream project?
Freedom Rise is definitely my dream project. A project I literally dreamed about for a long time! It’s not always easy (nothing worthwhile ever is!) but it’s allowed me to create things from scratch and share them with the world.

What would you do without art?
I’m honestly not sure! It’s become such an important and integral part of my life. Maybe I would become a park ranger! =P

What keeps your fires burning?
Right now it’s spreading the idea of the connection. Lately I’ve been connecting with people who’ve said they’ve been inspired to create, travel or try something new either by wearing one of my shirts or enjoying my art. This is SUCH a big motivator! Even if it’s in a small way, the idea that my work can make a positive difference in someone’s life is pretty wonderful!

Everyone should at least once in their life….
travel MORE! When I was younger I made up excuses for why I couldn’t travel: not enough time, money, can’t get the time off, etc. Just do it!

And I don’t think you necessarily need to spend a lot of money or go somewhere super far away. Go camping an hour away or go on a day trip to a hike you’ve never done before. Experiencing new things is one of the best parts of life and if you make that a priority it will happen!

Thanks Becca!

Oh completely in love with everything she creates!

You can now shop her beautiful art and designs on the marketplace now.
