Behind the Labels – Bohemian Diesel Marketplace
I am absolutely obsessed with the designs of beautiful Lizzie Romanstine ever since I discovered her label Native Rainbow on instagram a few years ago!
Featuring a collection of rich leathers, feathers, crystals and turquoise inspired by the deserts of California to the mountains of Tennessee, Native Rainbow evokes images of Bohemian gypsies, Native American warriors, Egyptian gods and Psychedelic daydreams.
What more does a girl need!?! 😉
Each of Lizzie’s pieces are one-of-a-kind and handmade with many hours of love, and yes, her amazing designs are now also available on the marketplace! *dance*
Lizzie was so kind to do a little interview with me, talking about herself, her designs and more:
How would you describe yourself, Lizzie?
I was raised a Southern girl but am a California girl at heart. I lived in Los Angeles for 11 years and then moved to North Carolina a few years ago to purchase land and rescue animals. My father was an artist and I suppose I inherited the creative gene. I have been creating art for as long as I can remember. When I was younger, I mainly did painting and illustration. Today, I have many different mediums under my belt. I dabble in Silversmithing, macrame, weaving, stained glass, photography, clothing design & construction, gardening, homeopathy and so on. I like to keep my hands busy so my mind is happy. When I am not being creative, I am caring for my 7 stray animals! They consume most of my time. My ultimate goal is to establish an animal sanctuary and a flower farm. I have a lot of work ahead of me! 🙂
Tell us about Native Rainbow.
After my last “real” job, I decided I didn’t want to work for anyone else. I realized that I should be making a living doing what I love. So I began creating and thus Native Rainbow was born. I specialize in hand-crafted leather handbags and accessories. I strive to create functional art; fashion that is not restricted by time or trend and that is a conversation piece. In continuity with my love of animals, all my leathers are ethically sourced in the USA. I only use materials that were humanely acquired by natural shedding or hunted primarily as a food source.
Where and when do you feel most inspired?
I am continually amazed by the artisanship and cultures of Africa, India and Native America. Nature inspires me constantly; the colors, patterns, textures, shapes. But I receive inspiration wherever I go. I feel once you open yourself up you can draw influence from the simplest things.
What are you passionate about? Whats your purpose in life?
I am most passionate about love and nurturing life. I consider myself a mother of the Earth. I enjoy caring for others, especially those in need. The world can be a lonely place, so if I can spare someone or something pain, I am going to take it upon myself to do so. I believe in compassion and kindness overall.
A message for women everywhere…
We live in an era now where women are much more empowered. Some really fantastic women have paved the way for us and I think it is important to honor that. In your daily actions, take into account what others endured to allow women to be the life forces that we are today. Be grateful and give back. I wish for more community in general but especially with women. We need to encourage one another!
