XAURA THE LABEL
Behind the Labels – Bohemian Diesel Marketplace
Happy Monday beautiful souls!
Oh, this week really couldn’t start any better, a new beautiful label just hit our Marketplace, and we are super excited to introduce it to you today:
Xaura the Label
Absolutely in love with these gorgeous designs and sooo happy to have Xaura onboard!
Check out what Xaura designer and creator, lovely Kavita Patel, tells us about her label in the interview we did for our BtL series below:
Tell us about Xaura and the artisans you work with!
Xaura represents how we feel when we wear beautiful clothes made ethically by hand and the energy we put out to the world. It’s about supporting traditional craftsmanship and feeling the pride of wearing something beautiful while making a positive impact. X represents the merging of two cultures, Eastern and Western, and Aura is the energy that we radiate. Integrating both sides of my upbringing, my Indian heritage and Western culture, has given me an avenue to express my own true self. In the past I have customised outfits through hand embroidery or mirror work. I really wanted to bring Indian techniques to the Western inspired clothing, and showcase the unique skills that is traditional to my culture. The handwork that the artisans in India learn are passed down through generations within families. It’s a means of livelihood for the communities. It’s a laborious task to produce an item and the skills and the effort put into each piece is what makes Xaura unique. I am very excited to be working with artisans who still practise these ancient crafts today and to be able to showcase it in a contemporary silhouette.
What gave you the push to create your own label?
I knew from a young age while playing with dolls and making them dresses that I wanted to become a fashion designer. he plan was always there but the actual push came from within by believing and finally having the courage take the jump and follow my dreams. My family are my biggest supporters and have always been encouraging and supportive which has made this journey smoother.
What are three words you would use to describe yourself?
Kind, strong-willed, mellow
What are three words you would use to describe the women that wears Xaura?
Strong, free-spirited, unique
A message for women everywhere?
Be kind, work hard, be humble, smile often, stay loyal, be honest, travel as much as possible, never stop learning, be giving and love always. Empower each other and know your self worth.
Who and what inspires you?
I get inspiration from my culture and my experiences from travelling and exploring different cultures.
What does “being free” mean to you?
Liberation, from your mind. Freeing ourselves from limiting beliefs that are holding us back from doing or achieving things we want.
The mantras you live by…
Life is a journey and we are just passing by so might as well make a positive impact with a smile and give back as much as possible.
Everyone should at least once in their life…
Experience a yoga retreat. It’s a chance to fully disconnect and practise what’s good for your body. I’ve been to a few, some a bit unusual, but the feeling I get during my time there and afterwards is like being on cloud nine. Totally rejuvenated and revitalised. I also recommend travelling alone, it really opens you up to new experiences.
What’s your vision for the future of your brand?
The brand believes in sustainable and ethical practices which is a less harmful to the environment and also supports livelihood of local communities. Xaura’s vision is to be able to work with small artisan groups with a focus on slow fashion movement which is more about having a connection with the clothing. To be able to preserve these unique craft techniques to help communities where their livelihood and standard of living will have a positive impact. The aim is to give back to the communities and empower women in order to give them freedom.
