Behind the Labels – Bohemian Diesel Marketplace

Uhhh absolutely obsessed with the designs of our latest marketplace label XIX Palms!
Especially with their jumpers and beautiful maxi dresses!!!!
XIX Palms is a bohemian lifestyle brand based on the island of Oahu. Their clothing is as bold and versatile as the woman wearing it. Whether she is at the beach, out for a night on the town, or festival bound, she is effortlessly chic. XIX Palms transforms the familiar into the unique by combining urban and tropical vibes that only the islands bring.
And if you don’t know XIX Palms already I’m sure you have seen some insta/blogger babes like Halley of The Salty Blonde and Jessica of Rustic Bones wearing these gorgeous designs!

Check out what XIX Palms designer Ali Botma tells us about her label:

So who is behind the magic & where do you call home?

Aloha, my name is Ali.  I am the designer and co-founder of XIX Palms (pronounced “Nineteen Palms”). My creativity, paired with my husband’s business expertise is what fuels the fire to XIX Palms. We are lucky to be based on the North Shore of Oahu.

How would you describe your brand?

XIX Palms (“Nineteen Palms”) is a bohemian lifestyle brand.  XIX offers a unique take on the boho beach babe by combining tropical beauty with a sophisticated, urban edge. In all of my designs, I focus on curating styles that are versatile and unforgettable.  Whether the XIX girl is at the beach, out for a night on the town, or festival bound, the XIX girl is effortlessly chic.

How did you come up with the name XIX Palms?

XIX Palms symbolizes a cultivation of two unique stories in my life.

The number Nineteen, represented by the Roman Numeral “XIX”, is part of a very special date.  One of my best friends was involved in an accident that resulted in serious brain trauma.  My friend was able to courageously recover from her injuries and participate with Ali in a walk to raise awareness for brain injuries.  We got matching tattoos of the date (July 19th) to remember the day and to always remind themselves to be strong and courageous no matter the circumstance.

The idea of Palms came from my mom.  My mom always made it a point to include at least one palm tree in all of her paintings.  It is her signature and also one of the many things I’ve always admired about her.

I mean, who doesn’t love an inspiring story mixed with a palm tree?

When did you know you wanted to be a fashion designer?

When I turned 28, two years ago.

What are your main sources of inspiration?

I was raised in diverse and beautiful places; Dana Point, California, Sun Valley, Idaho and Kona, Hawaii. So along with the places I was raised, palm trees, the islands, the mountains, music, and just about everything in between are my sources of inspo.  I’m constantly inspired.

What makes you happiest about your job?

Creating new pieces, seeing women wearing XIX, meeting creative artists locally and around the world and of course working for myself!

Tell us about your design style.

My design style is pure chaos.  It’s a little bit of this and a little bit of that.  I do my best to keep up with the latest trends while also infusing each design with my last little signature.

What keeps your fires burning?

I LOVE what I do so my passion drives me.

In what do you believe?

I believe you can do anything you want if you work hard enough for it.

What does “being free” mean to you?

Doing things that make one happy.  Doing things without caring what others think. Laughing a lot.  Not taking life too seriously.

The mantras you live by…

David Bowie: “I don’t know where I’m going from here but I promise it won’t be boring”

Mae West: “You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.”

What’s next? What’s your vision for the future of your brand?

To get an office and some employees. We’ve got some cool new collabs on the way so stay tuned 😉  I will keep creating new designs.  Nothing can stop me.

Thank you so much Ali! Really can’t wait to see more of your designs! 🙂
